An Oklahoma City doctor and pharmacist are charged with manslaughter for giving an elderly patient five times the amount of drugs that should have been prescribed, killing him. Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond recently filed second-degree manslaughter charges against Dr. Alexander Frank and pharmacist Justin Lee in federal court. In May 2020, the 75-year-old victim was admitted to Bellevue Health and Rehabilitation Center in Oklahoma City recovering from a fall at home. Court documents say Frank, who was the rehabilitation center’s medical director, approved an incorrect and dangerous dose of methotrexate, a drug used to treat a rare medical condition that can damage muscle tissue. Methotrexate also has strict warnings that it could cause a “serious toxic reaction, which can be fatal.” The victim was only supposed to take 20 milligrams of the drug every seven days.
